Note: I shared this post about the complexities of corporate life with The Reverend CD and with his permission, I’ve included his comments in blue.
God damn, I hate people. Not the horrible hate kind of hate, just the generalized disdain. The kind where you know your pets are fucking better entities than 99.9% of the species on this planet.
I went there. I will always go there because people suck. They are atrocious bottom-feeding parasites who try to latch onto a sucker because they want a better life for themselves and their kids.
If I re-enabled emojis, I’d have used the green-faced throwing-up one. Sometimes, I say to myself (self) WTF is wrong with everyone? WTF is wrong with us? Yes, us.
I feel that humanity is so stupid that teaching my cats to not eat the treats that another left on the floor is actually easier than teaching people to have generalized manners.
The point of this post surrounds this concept called “Take it off-line“, or just “Off-line”.
Offline, to me, is a space in the corporate world where two or more people should have a conversation that doesn’t have to include everyone else. Another complexities candidate.
This includes, but is not limited to, anything that would make your teammates look bad, weak, or otherwise paint them in a bad light. This is just having bad form.
If you don’t know how to handle people, you shouldn’t be in a position to handle people. I’ve known, and currently know, people who have no fucking idea how to handle people.
That’s because they are ass douches who are so myopic it is deafening. You see, navigating the world is a hard task, and having the finesse to handle people all the while, now that’s a skill.
And for fuck sake, it’s not that hard of a skill. One appropriate and skillful way to handle people is to literally not shit in their cheerios. LITERALLY.
Aside from the obvious, if you are on my team, then you are on my team. I will protect you, I will stick up for you, I will fight for you. I will always do that.
As for myself, kastle, I will always promote the good in you, in your deeds, own and deflect your mistakes, or otherwise do no harm.
Real leaders do that, good leaders do that too. They don’t hang you out to dry. Anything less than good is least worst territory.
That’s the sign of shitty people, who are shitty leaders. You know them, you’ve worked for them. They are tiny people who are devoid of empathy, love and are conscienceless.
They suck the life out of everyone around them. They make me want to commit a war crime in the toilet. Yeah, you can use that one to your liking. It’s called hyperbole, clown shoes.
What does that mean? It means complexities. Everything is a complex little ecosystem, from people to process. You have to handle those complexities with a light touch.
These shitty little people are so inept and vapid that they can’t conceive of wrongdoing. Yet you spell “concieve” wrong, and you should be written up for stupidity.
Being a leader is about supporting your people, growing them into something amazing and special, allowing them time in the light, and not covering them in shit like a mushroom.
Complexities represent that fine touch you have to have when working with people. One size does NOT fit all. In fact, no size fits anything.
As a leader, you have to adjust to the people, not bend them to your will.
