Dream Theater Untethered Angel, The Voices Again |2020

Dream Theater’s Untethered Angel is such a trip of a song. The lyrics are curious, but consistent with older material. I loved “As you argue with the voice inside your head“.

Voices from Awake much?

I have been a Dream Theater fan longer than I haven’t been. I first heard them in 1993 while listening to Z-Rock while at work in upstate NY. I was treated to a full playing of Pull Me Under, all 8+ minutes of it.

Hooked.

Let’s be real… I wasn’t super enthralled with the album at first but it did grow on me. Untethered Angel and Paralyzed would be my favorites. Well, then S2N and Pale Blue Dot. But those are another night.

The album is very complex, but fuck… it’s just not comparable at ALL to Dream Theater’s older works, such as:

The Astonishing <- bestest, or only second to Awake

 
I’m sure I’ll catch a ration of shit over that list, not having SC, Octovarium, CoS, DToE, or ToT. I mean no disrespect to those bodies of work. And way, way, way in the back would be BC&SL, never loved that album.
