The Astonishing > A Better Life

I am going to take a few minutes here, and over the next few weeks, to review Dream Theater’s new album, The Astonishing. IMO, this is a epic, massive and awe inspiring album. Clocking in at ~2h:10m, it’s gonna take a while.

The fifth track, A Better Life, is a solid, solid track. This introduces Arhys, Gabriel’s older brother. It takes about their relationship as well that with his son, Xander.

Some really interesting grooves in the track. Some cool chorus parts, but the most important part is that this song does progress the story and starts filling in some character points. You’ll see this as a topic over the next couple of tracks.

This starts ~3:45 …
Evangeline, you lived a life of misery and pain
Evangeline, I’ll never let your memory die in vain
Evangeline, my heavy heart still bleeds
I dedicate my life to set you free
And I will carry on to plant the seeds
I promise in the name of our new son;
This battle won’t be over until it’s won!
