The Astonishing > A Life Left Behind

I am going to take a few minutes here, and over the next few weeks, to review Dream Theater’s new album, The Astonishing. IMO, this is a epic, massive and awe inspiring album. Clocking in at ~2h:10m, it’s gonna take a while.

We are now up to the thirteenth track, A Life Left Behind. Very interesting track that details Faythe returning back to the palace and she realizes how strong her feelings are for Gabriel. She decides that she has to go back to Ravenskill and see him, but that she has to hide who she is because she’s a princess.

Empress Arabelle, her mother, realizes what’s going on and tries to intercede. The Empress sees the hope in Faythe’s eyes and decides to let her go. But wisely, and smartly, she instructs Prince Daryus to secretly follow his sister, Faythe, to ensure she’s OK.

It’s a very solid song, sweet and flowing inline with this section of the album. This is going to lead thru Ravenskill to A New Beginning. And this is going to be a very impressive ride.
