The Astonishing > Act Of Faythe

I am going to take a few minutes here, and over the next few weeks, to review Dream Theater’s new album, The Astonishing. IMO, this is a epic, massive and awe inspiring album. Clocking in at ~2h:10m, it’s gonna take a while.

We are now up to the ninth track, Act Of Faythe. This is, well, umm, “my MUUUUSSSIIICCC PLAAAYAH”. The actual line is ““My music player, My private paradise, My music player, A refuge I must hide”. This has to be one of the strangest and funniest sets of lyrics from them in forever. This takes place 3:20m.

In all seriousness, this is Faythe coming to grips with what the world is really like and and how she’d been isolated for so long. The song details her finding the music player (it’s noted in the lyrics) and how it’s changed her life. At the end she is captured by Gabriel’s music because of how real it was. That’s my take anyways.
