This is Part One of Three songs off of Handle With Care by Nuclear Assault.
I’ve been a fan of Nuclear Assault since the mid-’80s, the combination of content and thrash really spoke to me.
When freedom dies is a very interesting track given that Nuclear Assault wasn’t exactly considered a politically active group, per se. Wherein they were seemingly more environmentally conscious.
I was thinking about this track and the next two (in order on the album) that take on some big topics regarding governmental overstep and overreach. Yup, like then like now.
I spend a good amount of time thinking about the state of things, as a generality, and how there are many indicators of a bad storm coming, one that brings many bad things.
I’ve covered that topic over and over and over. I’m not even going to bother linking them here, it’ll take too much time.
We can not allow society to be destroyed by the removal of our freedoms and rights for the sake of the boogyman rhetoric, whatever manifestation that it is being made out of.
This should make it completely clear where I think things are going in one microcosm of our society.
United in a time, a time of need
Against a common foe, the enemy
The years of death endured, the years of pain
Against an evil force, a force not saneWe become the enemy!
When freedom dies for securityAnd then the world endured, a victory won
Against an insane man and his cohorts
But once the war was done, blind fear prevailed
And years of darkness came, freedom was nailedWe become the enemy!
When freedom dies for securityWe let our freedom die, we let it wane
We feared an enemy’s atomic rain
But what was on our minds, what we became
We and the enemy
We are the same!We become the enemy!
When freedom dies for security
We become the enemy!
When freedom dies for security
