BETE – Be Excellent To Each Other. Why’s that so hard? |2020

BETE – Be excellent to each other. No simpler term could ever signify the greatest of humanity and compassion then that which was uttered in the 1989 Classic “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure“.

Why are curtesy and respect so hard to exude when as a culture, it is what we strive to achieve? -BETE

Time machine back to 1989. You see this movie with two dudes who are either idiots or are stoners, or both, who says one of the most epic phrases in cinematic history:

That line has long impacted my life, given it some sort of meaning over the long haul because of the simplicity of it. Is it so hard to be the best version of you that you can be?

The concept of BETE – Be Excellent To Each Other, is incredibly impactful to me. Enough so that while I was writing “New Direction“, my first thought was:

#1. Be courteous towards others: You would think that this was self-explanatory, but it goes to show that one should realize that being courteous to others shows respect. Respect begets respect. Courteousness in the face of anger shows restraint. Power does not need to be feed but rather grounded.

courteous > respect > restraint = real power

On top of that, in my past life of writing the “The Code“, I had three (3) very specific instances where I could feel the impact of the idea, BETE – Be Excellent To Each Other, in my ideas.

C. Showing respect for all life is as paramount as being humble for the mercy of others.
F. Have respect for yourself, and for others, even when the light of the world grows dark, as there will always be a need for good men to fight against all the evils that men do.
S. You must have Loyalty, Respect, Honor, Integrity and Intelligence to open the doors to having Strength.

Now, this isn’t a post to highlight what I have written (kinda maybe), but to honor the idea of BETE – Be Excellent To Each Other. It is to underscore how important it is.

Try it some time. Be a good human to random people. Be excellent. Be better than you are now (probably).
