Dream Theater in Vegas

Yesterday I flew up to Vegas to see Dream Theater in Concert at “The Joint” at The Hard Rock Hotel. This was a part of the Progressive Nation 2009 tour.

I was seated Section 2, row QQ. This puts me on the floor about 30 yards from the stage. One of the coolest things about the newly redesigned “Joint” is the giant ass plasma screens (in HD) on both sides of the stage. Great for better viewing including times when there are people in your way.

The opening act were “Scale the Summit“, “Big Elf” and “Zappa Plays Zappa“. All were pretty good, not as good as last years show with “3“, “Between the Buried and Me” and “Opeth“.

I had only two problems during the show. There was some ass clown about 3 rows up that decided to stand on two chairs when Dream Theater started playing. Took about 4 minutes for security to tell him to get down. That was fine. But the drunk douche nozzles behind me were something else. I had beer spilled on my legs twice, one dude fell forward between me and the guy 2 seats over causing a ruckus. Then later on, while trying to climb over a chair he fell hard and looked like a drunked douche. He was. That’s the point his lady friend decided it was time to leave. Wasn’t soon enough and it did a good part to ruin the show.

Here’s the set list from last night :

A NIGHTMARE TO REMEMBER
CONSTANT MOTION
A RITE OF PASSAGE
HOLLOW YEARS
EROTOMANIA
VOICES
PROPHETS OF WAR
TAKE THE TIME
—————
THE COUNT OF TUSCANY

Overall, excellent. Was great to see them again and hope (and plan) to see them many many more times.
