1030 And How FANTASTIC It Was For Me!

October 30th, 1994. AKA 1030. That is the day I moved to Arizona and freed myself of New York. I was liberating. It was an adventure. It was a journey. It made me into me.

October 30th, 1994 I get on a plane and fly from Newburg, NY to Phoenix, Arizona. This was my new home and this is where I was going to spend my life.

Aside from a one year detour in Florida, Arizona is my home. In fact, I have lived here in Arizona longer than I haven’t.

And that’s just the start of my 1030 journey.

What’s so special about it is this… I spent ~5 hours listening to Dream Theater’s latest album (OK, it was a CD) , AWAKE.

Over and over and over. I think I had to change the batteries in my Sony Discman a couple of times during the flight.

It should not come as a surprise to anyone who’s read my blog at all, I am a huge Dream Theater fan, and this album is the main reason.

After being exposed to Pull Me Under, I rushed out and purchased Images and Words. I was so blown away that I don’t think I have enough time to write a dissertation on it.

Spend ~5 hours listening to something that you enjoy and it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise to come away with a stronger bond. That was amazing.’

Awake was the appropriate album for this journey as it was my personal awakening.

Some of my most favorite old school DT songs are on this album, very specifically Voices and Scarred. The twin tracks of The Mirror and Lie were stellar. The great bass line there.

Anytime I hear a track off of Awake, I think about 1030. It reminds me of my awakening and subsequent progression as a human.

And yes, I know that Youtube is Killing Videos – 2020 so using links is worthless.

With that being said, here is my 1030 supporting link to the album on Youtube, it’s a copy & paste.
