Finisterra – A light at the end of the world. Part of me wants to note that the only light at the end of the tunnel is another train. Or another life in this case. Or not.
I can’t really find too many instances of writing about Moonspell here, but they are a long-ago favorite of mine. My first introduction to them was rather interesting (to me).
After Memorial, they kind of fell off for me. Never been too sure why that was, but I know it to be the truth.
First things first about Moonspell. 1,000% goth. Not Type O goth, but gothic goth. Infused with a bit of a death metal sound, or at least writing style. The good ole days…
Regardless, there are likely many interpretations of what this means, but I feel that this quote by Bleedblue48 is a fantastic summary of the meanings of this song :
I think it represents being at the end of something and being hesitant to continue or to stay.
I can relate, oh how I can relate. Always remember, what I write about on here, music included, is almost always specific in nature. I just don’t talk about it further.
The first song from Moonspell that I heard was “Opium“. Interesting track, prophetic to what my mother would live through, and very much directly led to her death. I digress.
Finisterra continues a tradition where the sound and texture of the music overshadows the actual content. It’s got a rhythm that I like, the sound being unique.
While I don’t particularly care for the vocal styling, and it’s very likely that I never really have, the rest of the music is cool. To me.

The world has turned once more inside
Brought up a message from our dead
The ones you love the most
Are the ones you hurt as deepThe world has turned once more inside
Anchored into captivity
The ones you wanted the most
The ones you buried under seaExit wounds, water drums, dream the eternal return
Tree of life rotting, inside, autumn leaves winter whiteA light at the end of the earth
Whole world a ghost shading inside
True love waits for the bless of death
The doubt that sets me free
Not to remember anythingStillborn, blood let, die in our feet like the trees
Earth song, Neverland, let the blood have it’s wayAlight at the end of the earth
Was it for this we sold our souls?
Was it for this we missed our chance
Of leaving? For a lie at the end of the earth!
